Discipline > Motivation
Waiting around until we feel motivated to do right is a mistake.
Switch up the perspective: discipline > motivation. We can’t rely on motivation to keep us working, because motivation is just an unreliable emotion. Discipline is what causes us to do right, in spite of how we feel!
Model for your children that hard work is a habit we can develop, and show them how we get stronger when we practice doing hard things even when we don’t feel like it.
Good verses to memorize and recite aloud together daily are:
And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men,
Colossians 3:23 NKJV
The hand of the diligent will rule,
But the lazy man will be put to forced labor.
Proverbs 12:24 NKJV
As vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes,
So is the lazy man to those who send him.
Proverbs 10:26 NKJV
The way of the lazy man is like a hedge of thorns,
But the way of the upright is a highway.
Proverbs 15:19 NKJV
The lazy man will not plow because of winter;
He will beg during harvest and have nothing.
Proverbs 20:4 NKJV
